Gerasimos Lountzis is a high-school teacher and amateur musician in a small city in Greece. A few years ago he discovered his love for photography and since then he photographs towards understanding photography as an art.

 

"...Photography works for me as a kind of personal revelation. A disclosure of an inner truth, an impression of a restless emotion, where the ‘transient’ and the ‘eternal’ can be captured and arranged at once and forever –as a small prize over an aesthetical, emotional and intellectual battle-.

This said, to share a photograph it means to share, if possible, one’s revelation, and not the personal joy that follows after. As the joy of the revelation is sometimes greater than the revelation itself -and often difficult to be separated- I find it challenging to discover which of my photographs -if any- can be experienced as meaningfull and revelative to others..."

 

"...Η φωτογραφία είναι για μένα μια μορφή αποκάλυψης. Η αποκάλυψη μιας εσωτερικής αλήθειας, η αποτύπωση ενός αεικίνητου συναισθήματος,  όπου το ‘παροδικό και το ‘παντοτινό’ μπορούν να συλληφθούν και να προσδιοριστούν μονομιάς και εσαεί –ως ένα μικρό βραβείο από μια αισθητική, συναισθηματική και διανοητική μάχη-.

Έχοντας πει αυτό, το να μοιράζεται κανείς μια φωτο-γραφία σημαίνει να μοιράζεται, εάν είναι δυνατόν, την αποκάλυψη του και όχι την προσωπική χαρά που έπεται. Καθώς η χαρά της αποκάλυψης είναι μερικές φορές μεγαλύτερη από την ίδια την αποκάλυψη –και συχνά δύσκολο να διαχωριστεί από αυτήν– το βρίσκω ως ενδιαφέρουσα πρόκληση να ανακαλύψω ποιες από τις φωτογραφίες μου –αν υπάρχουν κάποιες– μπορούν να βιωθούν ως σημαντικές και αποκαλυπτικές για άλλους ανθρώπους..."
